Differentiate among pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds.  •  Distinguishing between intensive and extensive properties of matter •  Contrasting properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids •  Distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous forms of matter
    • Class Starter: Give 2 examples of a physical change and 2 examples of a chemical change.
o    In-Class: (advanced)Review for quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday 
o    Homework: Ch. 3 voc quiz Tuesday; chapter 3 sec 1 and 2 quiz Wednesday

o    Class Starter: Meet in lab…no starter
o    In-Class:  physical and chemical change lab- MUST HAVE BUNSEN BURNER HOSE BY THIS DAY. 
o    Homework: none    
Day 28-9/19/2014
o    Periods: 4-5
o    State Course of study objective: 1.) Differentiate among pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds.  •  Distinguishing between intensive and extensive properties of matter •  Contrasting properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids •  Distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous forms of matter.
o    Class Starter: Use your book or notes and list the 5 ways to separate a mixture.
o    In-Class: Write together the post lab write up of our physical and chemical change lab.  Discuss what the difference in the 5 ways to separate a mixture are and begin discussing elements and compounds.  
o    Homework: none
Day 28-9/19/2014
o    Periods: 4-5
o    State Course of study objective: 1.) Differentiate among pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds.  •  Distinguishing between intensive and extensive properties of matter •  Contrasting properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids •  Distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous forms of matter.
o    Class Starter: List the states of matter and give 2 examples of each. 
o    In-Class:  (advanced and regular) discuss mixtures and solutions. Discuss prelab for Monday’s lab.   Pop quiz on states of matter and physical vs chemical changes. 

o    Homework: Study notes.
