Chemistry Week of Sept 22nd plans

·         Day 29-9/22/2014
·         Periods: 4-5
o    State Course of study objective:  1.) Differentiate among pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds.  •  Distinguishing between intensive and extensive properties of matter •  Contrasting properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids •  Distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous forms of matter
    • ***Actually we are going to lab to finish our chemical and physical properties lab.  

    • Class Starter: Use your book to define a mixture.
o    In-Class: (advanced)Go over quiz given last Wednesday, and discuss the lab from last week.  Begin to discuss mixtures and separation techniques. 
o    Homework: Ch. 3 sec 3 and 4 vocabulary definitions due Wednesday.  Vocabulary quiz Wednesday.  (Study for Periodic Table test 1-36 regular, 1-54- quiz Oct. 8)
·         Day 30-9/23/2014-
o    Periods: 4-5
o    State Course of study objective1.) Differentiate among pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds.  •  Distinguishing between intensive and extensive properties of matter •  Contrasting properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids •  Distinguishing between homogeneous and heterogeneous forms of matter
o    Class Starter: What are ways you can separate mixtures?
o    In-Class: Discuss elements vs compounds.  Introduce law of definite proportions and law of multiple proportions.  Video clip from Discovery on elements, compounds, and mixtures.
o    Homework: Ch. 3 sec 3 and 4 vocabulary definitions due Wednesday.  Vocabulary quiz Wednesday.  (Study for Periodic Table test 1-36 regular, 1-54- quiz Oct. 8)

o    Periods: 4-5

o    Class Starter/ In-class: no starter….Alabama power’s tesla car will be here and we will be hearing from the engineer that day.
