Mrs. Alissa Jordan’s Lesson Plans: Chemistry
Week of October 13 and 20th
Monday, October 13- Wednesday, October 15: Fall Break
Thursday and
Friday, October 16th and 17th:
Alabama Course of
Study Objective: PRACTICING
LABORATORY SKILLS
Class starter: none
In-class:
Students will be in the science laboratory today preparing for the monster
lab. They will be practicing their
experiments using safety skills learned before.
Homework:

Monday-Wednesday, October 20-22, 2014
Alabama Course of
Study Objective: 3.) Use the periodic table to
identify periodic trends, including atomic radii, ionization energy,
electronegativity, and energy levels.
• Utilizing benchmark
discoveries to describe the historical development of atomic structure,
including photoelectric effect, absorption, and emission spectra of elements
Example:
Thompson's cathode ray, Rutherford's gold foil, Millikan's oil drop, and Bohr's
bright line spectra experiments
Class starter:
(Monday)Using your book Ch. 4, find out what Dalton’s atomic theory stated.
(Tuesday) What parts of Dalton’s theory were true, and what parts were false?
Why were they false? (Wednesday) Using chapter 4, describe the relationship
between Aristotle and Democritus.
In-class: Students
will be introduced to the periodic table and taught how to read the various
symbols of the periodic table. Students will be introduced to the historical
timeline that brought about the periodic table.
They will be able to discuss what steps brought science from Aristotle
to modern times.
Homework:

Thursday and Friday, October 23 and 24, 2014
We will take a break from Chemical history to do an ACT
preparation blitz since many students will be taking the ACT on Saturday. We will talk about strategies and will work
the science part of a few tests and discuss answers.
